This Heavener Runestone is a slab of stone which stands 12 feet tall in height, 10 feet wide and 16 inches thick. Since 1970, the Runestone State Park has been conserving this huge and magnificent Runestone of Oklahoma. A very common belief among the researchers is that the Heavener Runestone is a representation of the date November 11, 1012 and that the runes were essentially a Norse cryptopuzzle. Later, this belief was legitimized and supported by the fact that two other runestones were found in the same region of Porteau mountains.
In the year, 1986, it was disclosed that these five discovered runestones had evidently belonged to two or three centuries before, around 800 AD. The Heavener Park and the Heavener Runestone of Oklahoma were maintained and studied by Gloria Stewart Farley and it was she who gave the Heavener Runestone its present name. The Park is very well maintained by Mr. Eddie Hurst-superintendent, and is a perfect place for picnics providing playground for children and stunning views of the Mountain area. Oklahoma's Heavener Runestone is generally visited by those interested in historical research and archaeological findings.
