The unique statue or monument of Friendship with Chief Baconrind was established to commemorate the friendship between Colonel Ellsworth Walters and Chief Baconrind that they made during a oil deal in the early 20th century. At that time Baconrind was the chief of Osage Nation, which was doing a great business of oil that was discovered from the bottom of Osage Reservoir. Osage became a large dealer and supplier of oil and its economy started to flourish. It was in the year 1920 when Colonel Ellsworth Walters went there as an auctioneer with a mission to get Osage the best possible deal. And it was Skeede where he got his best deal. Oil worth millions of dollars were leased in a single day and founders and presidents of reputed oil companies came to bid in person.

The initiative of Ellsworth Walters turned the citizens of Osage into the richest people per capita income in the world at that time and that is why he was congratulated by Chief Baconrind by shaking his hand. And it was in the year 1926, that Ellsworth Walters erected the monument Friendship with Chief Baconrind at the intersection of Skeede.
